Mistake in NFL game wreaks Vegas havoc (AP)

The Pittsburgh Steelers walked off the field Sunday just happy they had won. A lot of bettors in this gambling city were more concerned by how many points they ended up winning by. Winners turned into losers and losers ended up winning when a game that should have ended up 17-10 or 18-10 instead went into the record books as the first 11-10 final in NFL history.

9-time Pro Bowl S Lynch retires (AP)

No more bone-jarring tackles for John Lynch. The hard-hitting, nine-time Pro Bowl safety retired Monday, saying it was time to begin a new phase of life after 11 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and four more with the Denver Broncos. He felt so strongly about the relationships he built with both clubs that he decided against stepping down in the colors of either team.

Trial date set for Vikings LT McKinnie (AP)

Minnesota Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie has a trial date in Miami set for March 16. He faces four charges stemming from his alleged involvement in a fight outside a nightclub in February. McKinnie’s attorney, Larry Kerr, appeared in Miami-Dade County court Tuesday. McKinnie was not required to attend.

Former NFL official Reader dies at 82 (AP)

Jack Reader, who spent nearly 50 years in NFL officiating and worked two Super Bowls, has died. He was 82. He died of cancer in Hingham, Mass., on Nov. 10, a day before his birthday, the NFL said Tuesday. Reader was the back judge in the first and third Super Bowls. He was a referee and back judge in the AFL and NFL from 1960-74 before joining the officiating department as a supervisor.

Ward not worried about facing Bengals (AP)

Browns’ Winslow to have MRI on shoulder (AP)
